As the leading Ford remote tuning experts Lund Racing has tuned many thousands of Coyote-equipped F150s, since their inception in 2011. As the F150 market has continued to expand & the support for these trucks has continued to grow, Lund Racing has continuously navigated the pathways forward to help our enthusiast customers reach their performance goals!
Now with the 2021+ F150s being equipped with the Gen 4 Coyote, this has brought an explosion of support from the aftermarket, which finally includes an offering from ESS with their well-known Centrifugal Supercharger kits!
As we've continued to compile data, sharpen our tunes, increase their performance, one thing we continue to notice is that the public consumers may not have all the data needed to make the leap from their existing N/A setup to their desired ESS Supercharger kit. In an effort to continue to educate & empower the consumer public, we wanted to give you guys the outlook from our perspective as to what you need to make that jump trouble-free!
You may already be familiar with our similar tech articles for customers wanting to make this same leap with their S550 or S650 Mustangs, and now we wanted to make sure our F150 enthusiasts have the same access to this type of data!
As most of our customers know, and as we've proven time & time again with the data - there's not much need for doing very many mods to the truck while it's in its N/A state. Naturally Aspirated (N/A) Mods simply don't have much in the way of Return On Investment (ROI) for you, the enthusiast consumer! As such, our stance remains the same here as it does with almost all of our N/A combos: Keep It Simple Stupid (K.I.S.S.)!
-Longtube Headers
-Free Flowing Exhaust
-Drop-in Filter -OR- PMAS CAI
-Lund Racing 93 Octane / E85 Tunes
That's it. Literally. That's all you need to do while the vehicle is N/A to enjoy it! Save all the other (read: mostly useless) mods and save those pennies and invest them into your ESS Blower Kit!
Most of the aftermarket products rely on Marketing Hype, inflated Dyno Numbers, false promises, skewed data, and so much more - all of which is just built in to generate SALES for the company. The fact remains that there are very few vendors or manufacturers who are actively pursuing perfection, implementation with other existing products in the marketplace, perfect drivability, perfect MAF signals, so on and so forth. With that being said, we've busted so many marketing hype myths here at Lund Racing over the years, that we know what works, what doesn't work, and we can show you the difference in the datalogs. Most of the time, the only reason your car is going any faster with these mods is because your wallet is lighter on the next pass you make.
Now with your handful of N/A mods purchased & installed, knowing that you're planning to go with a Centrifugal blower, let's start down the path of picking your blower setup and accompanying mods!
The Gen 4 F150s currently have G3, G3X and G3R Kits available, and once you've selected your Blower, it's time to go over the ancillary items you need for success!
You'll want to get at least a set of 55lb Injectors (OEM Predator), but we strongly recommend IDX1050X Injectors. For pump gas setups on these Gen 4 Trucks, you no longer need to have a Boost-A-Pump! You can certainly still run one, but it is no longer required! You'll need to grab a set of Spark Plugs and gap those down to about .026"-.028" gap. On the Gen 4s, we're no longer running NGK6510s, as the spark plug design has changed for this new generation engine! The suggested plugs that are on the market for this new engine are currently: NGK94956, M12405-50VDE or Brisk XER10s. With the Trucks being a MAP-based vehicle, we're going to need to outfit this with a Boost-friendly MAP Sensor, as well. For this, the OEM Predator GT500 CX2760 MAP Sensor is the best option, as it is both affordable & Plug & Play! You may also want to go ahead and purchase a UPR Dual VTA Catch Can System to relieve the engine of the increased positive crankcase pressure. That should cover the base setup that you'll need to get the Boosted Party started! Let's recap:
-Predator 55lbs (93) or 1050 Injectors (if E85)
-BAP *optional (93) or Fore L2+ Return Fuel System (if E85)
-1-Step Colder Spark Plugs at .026"-.028" Gap
-OEM Predator GT500 CX2760 MAP Sensor
-UPR Dual VTA Catch Can Kit
-Lund Racing Boosted Tune / Tune Revision (+$500 for Existing Customers)
From here, you're basically left with needing to decide which Supercharger Pulley you're going to want to run. We've compiled a list of Pulleys / Boost / Octane, which may vary a bit from what the Manufacturer states on their website, yet is accurate based on thousands of datalogs reviewed here in-house. Take a look at the Lund Racing Boost Chart below to determine what pulley you can run based on your fueling mods:

As always, our intention is to continue to educate & empower our enthusiast customers by providing data-driven information and results to you! Thank you for choosing & supporting Lund Racing!
*Editor's Note: Please remember that not all combos are the same, not all setups are put together leak free, not all fuels in all geographic locations will be the same. Our suggestions and recommendations in this tech article are for reference & your exact combo may vary. We will review each specific combo at the time of ordering, as well as reviewing each vehicle's individual datalog for verification of safety & performance, regardless of our suggestions/info on the boost charts provided.
**Second Editor's Note: The fueling, spark plugs & MAP Sensor data provided here is going to be the same for ALL 2021+ F150 Boosted Combos (up to the time where the combo would require going to a 4-BAR MAP Sensor). Injectors & Fuel Pump upgrades/changes will be required for boost over ~17psi from the article's recommended ID1050X Injectors.
